WHO standard definition

breastfeeding initiation within an hour after birth.

Indicator

Children born in the last 24 months who were put to the breast within one hour of birth divided by children born in the last 24 months.

Survey question

How long after birth did you first put (NAME) to the breast?

Coding format

If mother reports she put the infant to the breast immediately after birth, circle ’000’ For ‘Immediately’.
